C. Jeffrey Pennell, MD, FACS, received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Baylor University. He attended medical school at Louisiana State University Medical Center, in Shreveport, LA and later interned there in the Department of Medicine, where he was given the award for excellence in the undergraduate study of ophthalmology. Dr. Pennell continued his training at the Scott and White Memorial Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology, completing his residency there.
Subsequent to residency, Dr. Pennell underwent specialized training and certification in laser refractive surgery, with a special interest in LASIK. Dr. Pennell was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1996. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Pennell served on the Board of Directors of the Smith County Medical Society for 6 years; serving as its President from 2010-2011. He has remained active in research by participating in multiple clinical trials in the area of cataract surgery and macular degeneration.
Dr. Pennell practices general ophthalmology emphasizing cataract surgery (small incision, advanced and laser-assisted) and refractive surgery (iLASIK and PRK). He enjoys spending time with his family, playing the guitar and fishing.
