C. Jeffrey Pennell, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Pennell received his BS in Biology from Baylor University. He attended medical school at Louisiana State University Medical Center, in Shreveport, LA and later interned there in the Department of Medicine, where he was given the award for excellence in the undergraduate study of ophthalmology. Dr. Pennell continued his training at the Scott and White Memorial Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology, completing his residency there. Subsequent to residency, Dr. Pennell underwent specialized training and certification in laser refractive surgery, with a special interest in LASIK. Dr. Pennell was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1996. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Physicians, Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Pennell has served on the Board of Directors of the Smith County Medical Society for the past 6 years; he served as its President from 2010-2011. He has remained active in research by participating in multiple clinical trials in the areas of macular degeneration and cataract surgery.

Dr. Pennell practices general ophthalmology emphasizing refractive surgery (iLASIK and PRK) and small incision cataract surgery. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing the guitar and fishing.
